The Estadio de Gran Canaria and Gran Canaria Arena are preparing to host the visit of Pope Leo XIV on June 11, with capacity for over 50,000 faithful for a massive mass.

The extensive sports area of Siete Palmas in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria stands as the ideal venue for the magnitude of Pope Leo XIV's arrival on the island. The central event of his agenda will be a large-scale mass at the Estadio de Gran Canaria, expecting between 40,000 and 50,000 attendees, complemented by a Fan Zone and musical activities in the surrounding areas. The Gran Canaria Arena will serve as a logistical and reception center.
The Estadio de Gran Canaria, inaugurated in May 2003 and with a current capacity exceeding 32,000 spectators after its 2014 renovation, has hosted numerous events. Following upgrades for the 2030 World Cup, its capacity will surpass 44,000 seats. The stadium has hosted UD Las Palmas matches, Spanish national team games, and the recent Copa de la Reina final, which set an attendance record of 26,093 spectators.
Throughout its history, the venue has been the stage for major concerts, including performances by artists such as Shakira (2006, 33,000 attendees), Bruce Springsteen (2012, 30,000 spectators), and Quevedo, who holds the absolute record with over 41,000 fans at his concert on May 24, 2025. It has also hosted motor events like Freestyle Gran Canaria and stages of the Rally Islas Canarias.
Meanwhile, the Gran Canaria Arena, a venue for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, has hosted international team matches, several Copa del Rey basketball finals, and EuroCup finals. The arena has also seen concerts by artists like Aitana and Quevedo, in addition to events from the Rally Islas Canarias. Both venues, owned by the Cabildo, demonstrate their robustness for hosting large-scale events.
