The Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through the Island Energy Council (CIE), has approved new grant calls for 2026, with a budget of 700,000 euros, aimed at boosting energy self-consumption in homes and businesses, as well as sustainable mobility on the island.

These subsidies seek to strengthen the island government's energy transition strategy, making it easier for more homes and businesses to produce their own electricity and reduce their dependence on external sources. The initiative underscores the importance of citizen participation in building a fairer and more efficient energy model.

"These grants allow for a qualitative leap in domestic self-consumption, making it easier for more and more households to produce their own energy and reduce their external dependence."

The main grant line focuses on residences, offering up to 500 euros per installed kilowatt, with a cap of 3,000 euros. Additionally, a subsidy of 300 euros per kilowatt-hour is contemplated for storage systems, with a maximum of 1,000 euros. Thus, each home could benefit from up to 4,000 euros per installation.
Homeowners' associations will also be able to access these grants, provided that the installations are intended for the supply of common areas, which will allow for the expansion of self-consumption in urban environments. In addition to homes, a specific call has been made available for companies and non-profit organizations, with a budget of 125,000 euros, to finance photovoltaic installations linked to economic activity and energy storage systems.

"Self-consumption is today a strategic tool for our companies, because it allows them to reduce structural costs and gain competitiveness in a complex energy context."

Finally, the calls include a grant line for sustainable mobility, with the aim of promoting the use of light electric vehicles. Subsidies will cover up to 50% of the acquisition cost, with a maximum of 1,000 euros for electric mopeds, 600 euros for electric bicycles, 150 euros for scooters, and 1,500 euros for vehicles adapted for people with reduced mobility.
