The Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government will evaluate this Thursday the possible suspension of classes in Gran Canaria and Tenerife due to Pope Leo XIV's visit, prioritizing safety and mobility.

The decision on whether to suspend classes in Gran Canaria and Tenerife for the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV to the islands remains pending. The primary reason for considering this measure would be to ensure safety and facilitate travel during the event.
The Minister of Education, Poli Suárez, indicated on Wednesday that a resolution will be made soon. A key meeting is scheduled for this Thursday with the Government Delegation, the bishoprics, and the institutions involved in organizing the papal trip. However, Suárez cautioned that the final decision has not yet been made and it is not guaranteed to be adopted on that date.

"We want to provide a response as soon as possible. There are many requests for class suspension, and also many against it. We are working to make a rigorous, serious, and prudent decision."
