The investigated individual, aged 48, alleged he had suffered severe threats, homophobic attacks, damage to his vehicle, fires at his home's entrance, and attempted assaults with bladed weapons. He even provided medical reports related to supposed injuries from these incidents, which led to actions in various courts in Telde, as reported by the police force.
The arrest took place on May 4, concluding an investigation that began at the start of the year due to the “gravity and repetition of the reported incidents.” During this process, officers conducted surveillance operations, took witness statements, and analyzed images, messages, and telephone calls.
“"Filing false reports or simulating being a victim of a crime constitutes a criminal offense under the Penal Code, in addition to causing serious harm to police and judicial work by allocating public resources to the investigation of non-existent events."
After verifying that none of the reported incidents had actually occurred, the man was arrested. Once police proceedings were finalized, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
The National Police has reiterated the importance of truthfulness in reports, as the simulation of crimes is not only a criminal offense but also diverts essential resources from law enforcement and the judicial system.
