The event was attended by the popular regional president, Manuel Domínguez; the party's insular president, Carlos Sánchez; and the president of AV and mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez. The decision by Agrupación de Vecinos stems from a desire to contribute to broader government projects, pooling experience and management capacity.
Marco Aurelio Pérez argued that the union is not merely a combination of party labels but an incorporation of individuals and accumulated municipal political knowledge. He stated an objective to restore San Bartolomé de Tirajana's development level from 2019 and emphasized tourism's crucial role as an economic driver for the municipality and the island.
Manuel Domínguez described the agreement as the "start of the comeback" for the PP in Gran Canaria, highlighting the continuation of a prior political relationship and the shared goal of consolidating a governing project and strengthening the party's presence on the island. He linked the union to the aspiration of regaining institutional influence and achieving leadership of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.
Carlos Sánchez, president of the PP of Gran Canaria, praised Marco Aurelio Pérez's tenure leading the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council. He presented a critical assessment of the island's situation under left-wing governments, citing issues in security, connectivity, housing, infrastructure, and healthcare, alongside unemployment.
Marco Aurelio Pérez questioned the Cabildo de Gran Canaria's infrastructure management, referencing the Gran Canaria Arena as an example of a project initiated by the Popular Party, with no comparable strategic infrastructure developments since. This agreement enhances the popular party's organizational strength in San Bartolomé de Tirajana and positions the south of Gran Canaria as a key area in the party's electoral strategy.
