Gran Canaria's first Glow Bar, named Matchea, has opened its doors in the Triana neighborhood, presenting an innovative proposal of healthy beverages, prominently featuring canned matcha.

Entrepreneurs Jenny and Ángela, originally from Murcia and settled on the island for almost five years, are the visionaries behind Matchea. Their project aims to blend a healthy lifestyle with nutritious drinks, positioning itself as a space for self-care and well-being. They have opted for a concept they define as a “Glow Bar,” distinguishing themselves from traditional coffee shops by focusing on product purity and nutritional value.
Matchea's offerings are characterized by avoiding unnecessary additives, exclusively using plant-based alternatives and omitting artificial sweeteners and lactose-containing cow's milk. They opened their doors last Holy Thursday at Calle Travieso, 20, and quickly attracted tea enthusiasts, forming queues to try their innovative canned matcha.

"We are not a specialty coffee shop; we are a Glow Bar."

The canned format is one of the project's distinctive features, chosen for its functionality and aesthetics, as it keeps the drink cold longer and makes it easy to consume anywhere. Matchea's menu is varied and colorful, including options to accompany matcha such as blue and green spirulina, lion's mane, collagen, or activated charcoal, all incorporated in a pure and organic form.
In addition to matcha, they offer other beverages like golden milk, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and a selection of Brazilian Arabic coffees from the Lavazza range. Soon, the offering will expand with a sweet and savory gastronomic selection, including pastries with healthy fillings and options like tofu bagels or marinated tuna with soy and sesame.
Despite the logistical challenges inherent to the islands, Jenny and Ángela have achieved a great reception. Their vision extends beyond gastronomy, seeking to build a community around well-being and self-care, with plans to organize events such as pilates sessions with matcha and sports gatherings. Their goal is to generate a movement that connects with a generation interested in healthy alternatives and conscious consumption.
