The Government Delegation in the Canary Islands has suggested suspending classes and encouraging remote work in Gran Canaria and Tenerife in anticipation of Pope Leo XIV's visit to the islands.

Anselmo Pestana, the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, announced these proposals following a coordination meeting focused on mobility. Pope Leo XIV's visit is scheduled for June 11 in Gran Canaria and June 12 in Tenerife.
The initiative includes a recommendation to the Regional Ministry of Education to suspend school activities on both islands during the Pope's stay. Additionally, both public and private sectors have been urged to promote remote work “where possible” on the aforementioned dates.

"Ensuring this goes well is the most important challenge I have faced since leading the Government Delegation, assuring that nothing else comes close, not even remotely, to other significant events that have occurred."

These measures aim to ensure the smooth execution of the event, which Pestana described as the most significant challenge since he took office, surpassing other highly relevant occurrences in complexity.
