The Popular Party of Gran Canaria and the Juntos por Mogán party, led by Onalia Bueno, are holding talks for a potential electoral alliance ahead of the 2027 elections for the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.

The Popular Party on Gran Canaria and the political group Juntos por Mogán are exploring the possibility of forming an electoral alliance with an eye on the 2027 elections. Carlos Sánchez, president of the Transitional Government Commission of the PP of Gran Canaria, has confirmed "advanced conversations" with Onalia Bueno's party, whom he describes as "a great leader" in her municipality and "very close to the PP."
Although an agreement on the distribution of roles or a candidacy for the Presidency of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria has not yet been finalized, Sánchez believes that the PP should lead a future list for this institution, based on the "capacity" and preparation of its members. The popular leader has expressed his desire for the alliance with Bueno to be concluded "in a few dates," highlighting that her "beginnings were with us."
This approach comes months after Onalia Bueno announced her distancing from Coalición Canaria, the party with which she ran in the last elections. The mayor of Mogán, who began her political career in the PP in 2003, could return to the ideological space where she started her career. Her political trajectory includes a period as a councilor and deputy mayor in Mogán under the PP's leadership, a phase interrupted by her indictment in the "caso Góndola," which was ultimately dismissed after 17 years.
After returning to local politics in 2011 with Ciuca, Bueno became the Mayor of Mogán and has successfully consolidated her municipal leadership over three consecutive terms. In the 2023 elections, she ran under the Juntos por Mogán banner and has already indicated her intention to run for mayor again, with plans to expand her brand to other municipalities such as San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Santa Lucía de Tirajana.
If the agreement is formalized, this convergence would allow the PP to strengthen its growth strategy in Gran Canaria for 2027, especially in municipalities in the south of the island where Onalia Bueno has a strong electoral presence.
