The visit of Pope Leo XIV to the Canary Islands is approaching, and the first details of his schedule have been revealed, promising to gather tens of thousands of faithful between June 11 and June 12. Those interested in participating in the events can register through the official website conelpapa.es, facilitating organized access to the celebrations.
In Gran Canaria, the pontiff will celebrate a mass at the Estadio de Gran Canaria on the afternoon of Thursday, June 11. The following day, Friday, June 12, he will conclude his apostolic journey with another mass at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, scheduled for midday.
In addition to the events on the islands, the Pope's agenda includes two prior engagements in Madrid. On Saturday, June 6, he will preside over a vigil with young people in Plaza de Lima, where he will tour the area in his popemobile. On Sunday, June 7, coinciding with the feast of Corpus Christi, he will celebrate a mass in Plaza de Cibeles, followed by a Eucharistic procession.
To ensure security during these events, a large deployment is planned. According to the government delegate in the islands, Anselmo Pestana, it will involve more than 8,000 agents from various security forces, including the National Police, Local Police, UIP, and GRS of the Civil Guard. Reinforcements from the mainland are expected, and teleworking and the suspension of in-person classes have been suggested to mitigate mobility issues.
