Renowned photographer Spencer Tunick has selected Gran Canaria for his upcoming collective nude artwork, 'Gran Spectrum', scheduled for July 26, 2026.

The artist, known for his large-scale installations in public spaces, has chosen the island to create a piece aimed at defending the rights of the LGBTIQA+ community as part of the Culture & Business Pride 2026.
The installation, titled 'Gran Spectrum', is supported by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and Turismo de Islas Canarias. It will take place in two emblematic locations on the island: Las Palmas and Maspalomas, according to the event organizers.
Tunick will gather participants from the LGTBIQA+ community, allies, and the general public to denounce the "growing global backlash affecting LGTBIQA+ communities, their visibility, and their rights," as stated by the organization.

"The body becomes a collective visual language. The project seeks to generate an image linked to coexistence, equality, and freedom of expression at a time when many of these values are increasingly questioned internationally."

The New York-born photographer, born in 1967, has held over 100 installations in cities worldwide, including New York, London, Barcelona, and Mexico City, where he gathered more than 18,000 participants.
The choice of Gran Canaria is significant, as the island, and particularly Maspalomas, are internationally recognized as key destinations for the LGTBIQA+ community.
