The possibility of CB Gran Canaria remaining in the Liga Endesa after its sporting relegation hinges on the complex economic situation of other clubs. Historically, the league has seen teams fail to meet the necessary financial guarantees to compete in the top tier, opening the door for other clubs that had been eliminated on the court.
The most recent precedent is Betis, which last summer could not be promoted due to financial reasons, ceding its place to Granada, the second-to-last team in Liga Endesa. This same scenario could apply to Granca, which is actively pursuing this avenue to avoid relegation.
Meanwhile, Obradoiro is the only team that, for now, has been promoted as champion of the second division and reportedly will not have issues with the financial guarantee, as it would be within the validity period of one previously submitted.
The 'Final a Cuatro' for the second promotion spot to the Liga Endesa kicks off this afternoon in A Coruña. Three of the four participating teams (Basquet Coruña, Palencia, and Estudiantes) have recent experience in the elite. The opening match will pit the host, Basquet Coruña, against Palencia at 4:30 PM, followed by the game between Estudiantes and the other contender at 7:15 PM.
The main drawback for Granca, should the resolution on the promoted teams' compliance with ACB requirements be delayed, could be the configuration of its squad. Granada suffered the consequences of having a team designed for the second division, which cost them a significant part of the first half of the season and, despite their improvement, was not enough to stay up.
