After the first tender was declared void, the budget for the works increased by 34%, from 174.7 to 234.8 million euros. The president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, announced that the award will take place in November, provided there are no appeals.
The contracting board will meet next Monday, September 14, to evaluate the proposals and documentation from the competing companies. The Cabildo of Gran Canaria considers this renovation a decisive milestone in modernizing the sports venue, aiming to meet current competition, safety, and sustainability standards.
The project, designed by the studio L35 Architects, involves a comprehensive transformation including demolitions, earthworks, renovation of foundations, structures, installations, and surrounding urbanization. The most significant intervention is the new roof, with a budget of 93 million euros, which will cover the entire stands.
The capacity expansion, from the current 32,418 spectators to 44,020, is supported by the renovation of concrete structures and foundations. The project also emphasizes sustainability, with a budget of 7.3 million euros allocated to electricity, low voltage, and renewable energy, aiming for an energy-efficient venue.
