The 38th edition of this PWA world circuit event has officially started in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana. Due to light winds, the race committee adjusted the schedule to allow young athletes to open the wave discipline.
Following a waiting period, the competition launched with 16-knot winds. Using a scoring format based on two jumps and one wave, two men's heats were completed. The results highlighted the participants' ability to adapt to the marine environment of the Gran Canaria coast.
“"We have tried to run as many heats as possible for the youngest group competing in this world championship, but the conditions only allowed us to finish two U15 men's heats."
The event, supported by institutions such as the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, brings together over 120 athletes from three continents. The competition includes both youth and professional categories, reinforcing Pozo Izquierdo as an international benchmark for wave discipline.
