Swimmer rescued in distress at Charco de La Laja

A 24-year-old man was assisted by emergency services after suffering an upper limb trauma.

Emergency services rescued a 24-year-old swimmer at Charco de La Laja, in San Juan de la Rambla, Tenerife, after he found himself in distress and suffered an upper limb trauma.

The incident occurred around 12:31 PM, when the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) 112 received an alert reporting the situation of a swimmer unable to exit the sea on his own.
According to information provided by the caller, the affected individual was near the coast, using a life buoy, but unable to return to dry land by himself.
After the activation of emergency resources, the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) helicopter was dispatched to the scene. Rescuers located the swimmer and proceeded to extract him from the water.
Once ashore, personnel from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) evaluated the affected person, who presented with a moderate trauma to an upper limb. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias for medical attention.
