The island institution and the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands have assured that the current educational offering in La Gomera will be maintained for the next academic year. This announcement comes after the STEC-IC union reported the alleged elimination of the Arts Baccalaureate due to enrollment criteria.

The Island Council, which had previously rejected the closure of the island's only arts baccalaureate program, has highlighted the willingness of the Ministry and its head, Poli Suárez, to maintain ongoing dialogue with the educational community. The goal is to ensure training adapted to the island's specific circumstances.

The Island Council has emphasized the importance of preserving current educational programs, particularly in Baccalaureate and Vocational Training. This is considered crucial for equal opportunities, social cohesion, and fostering the rootedness of young people in their local environment.

The insular corporation has recalled that over 2,200 students are pursuing studies in La Gomera. Therefore, it argues that maintaining a sufficient and balanced educational offering is essential to prevent students from having to relocate to other islands, reduce territorial inequalities, and ensure they have the same educational options as in the rest of the Archipelago.
