The political party Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG) has launched a strong criticism against the municipal government group ASG-CC for the state of deterioration of the Torre del Conde Park, the main green lung of San Sebastián de La Gomera. IxLG believes the current situation is the result of an "evident lack of planning and maintenance".
The most criticized points are the "terrible state of the grass", deficiencies in the irrigation system, and recent tree felling that have reduced the vegetation mass and the landscape appeal of this historic enclave. "It is regrettable to see how the main green lung of San Sebastián de La Gomera presents an increasingly deteriorated image", stated Medina Martín, the municipal spokesperson.
IxLG points out that continuous irrigation problems have aggravated the deterioration of the garden areas, while the felling has caused concern among residents due to the loss of shade and vegetation cover. The spokesperson regrets that, instead of improvements, the park "has accumulated problems affecting its image, environmental value, and quality of use".
“"We are talking about one of the symbols of San Sebastián de La Gomera, a space for coexistence that deserves constant attention and responsible management. We cannot allow it to continue degrading due to the City Council's passivity."
Faced with this situation, Iniciativa por La Gomera demands the immediate development and execution of an action plan. This plan should include the comprehensive recovery of the grass, repair and modernization of the irrigation system, replacement of plant specimens, improvement of garden areas, and a stable preventive maintenance program.
The party also considers it "essential" for the City Council to provide transparent information on tree management and establish mechanisms for citizen participation. Luz Marina Medina Martín concluded: "The Torre del Conde Park cannot continue to be a victim of improvisation and lack of management. It is urgent to act to restore the image, environmental value, and dignity that such an important place deserves".
