The Cabildo de La Gomera has approved the new biennial cooperation program for Works and Services (PICOS) for the 2026-2027 period, allocating 2.5 million euros to strengthen collaboration with local councils and improve public infrastructure and services across all municipalities on the island.
This program includes a total of twelve actions distributed among the six municipalities, defined based on proposals from each local corporation. The initiatives address priority needs in areas such as water supply, public lighting, waste collection, sanitation, and the improvement of public spaces.

"This initiative consolidates the institutional cooperation model we have been developing, allowing us to respond directly to the demands of the municipalities and advance in improving the quality of life for citizens."
Casimiro Curbelo, president of the Cabildo, emphasized that the program ensures balanced action in all municipalities, reinforcing essential services and contributing to the territorial cohesion of the island. The 2.5 million euro funding, provided by the Cabildo, is distributed among the six municipalities based on criteria such as population and variables from the Canarian Municipal Financing Fund.
The overall investment exceeds 3.3 million euros, incorporating municipal contributions that complement the island's funding. In San Sebastián de La Gomera, urban improvement projects will be financed, including a public park, acquisition of vehicles for the Local Police, and sanitation equipment. Hermigua will focus its investment on improving tourist-sports infrastructure, such as the solarium and municipal swimming pool. In Agulo, actions will target improving drinking water supply. Vallehermoso will implement energy efficiency projects and public lighting renovation, while Valle Gran Rey will combine lighting and paving improvements with the acquisition of cemetery equipment. Finally, in Alajeró, funding will go towards purchasing a waste collection truck and improving rural public lighting.

"The biennial nature of the program allows for better planning and execution of works, especially for those actions that require budgetary and technical continuity. Furthermore, this cooperation model strengthens municipal autonomy and optimizes the use of public resources."
The Councillor for Municipal Cooperation, Cristina Ventura, highlighted that the biennial nature of the program facilitates better planning and execution of works, especially for projects requiring budgetary and technical continuity. Ventura added that this cooperation model strengthens municipal autonomy and optimizes the use of public resources, establishing itself as a key tool for local development and the improvement of municipal services on the island.
