This initiative, to be developed through the public company Gesplan, will focus on fire prevention, environmental risk reduction, and enhancing the conservation of the island's natural spaces. The work will target areas with high concentrations of vegetation and forest fuel, as well as urban-forest interface zones and ecologically significant or degraded enclaves.
Key actions will include silvicultural treatments and reducing flammable vegetation to limit the spread of potential fires and improve the safety of infrastructure and populated areas near forest zones. Efforts will also be made to clean and condition watercourses, ravines, and springs, strengthening protection for adjacent communities.
The project also encompasses improving roads and access points, alongside conservation efforts for viewpoints and trails. Environmentally, reforestation, plant restoration, and control of invasive species will be undertaken to safeguard native ecosystems. Furthermore, work will be done to preserve natural and cultural heritage, support public services, and manage waste in natural areas, aiming to enhance La Gomera's environmental and landscape conditions.
The Island Council highlights the socioeconomic dimension of the program, linking territorial protection with job creation and new employment opportunities on the island.
