The Fishery Producers Organization (OP) Anacef has launched its 'We Like Fish' campaign during the Ironman in Lanzarote, setting up information tents in Puerto del Carmen to promote the benefits of eating fish.

The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of fish in a healthy diet, particularly for athletes. Four information tents were set up during the event to disseminate this message.
At an event on Friday, which included an awards ceremony, journalist Mercedes Ortega presented. Also present was Kenneth Gasque, founder of the Ironman in Lanzarote in 1992, who emphasized the connection between fish consumption and athletic performance with the slogan “eat fish and run fast”.

"We wanted to link fish consumption with sports and healthy lifestyles, just as the founder of this event linked a healthy lifestyle with sports."

Juan Carlos Martín Fragueiro · Manager of Anacef
Anacef's manager, Juan Carlos Martín Fragueiro, also praised the work of Spanish fishermen in catching high-quality fish, highlighting its versatility, healthiness, and flavor on the table.
Martín Fragueiro warned about a concerning trend: “There has been a 35 to 40 percent reduction in household fish consumption.” Annual per capita consumption has dropped to between 18 and 22 kilograms, compared to 26 to 28 kilograms in previous years. Campaigns like 'We Like Fish' aim to reverse this situation.
For his part, the Councilor for Sports in the Tías City Council, Ismael Cruz Ramos, recalled the fishing origins of Puerto del Carmen, the host of the Ironman. He emphasized that the current tourism growth is built upon the traditional activity of the port of La Tiñosa, which sustained residents for decades.
The insular director of the General Administration of the State in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera, called Anacef's initiative a “success,” particularly for its focus on young people and for highlighting the benefits of omega-3 and other essential nutrients that fish provide for a healthy life.
The #WeLikeFish campaign has successfully attracted an audience interested in improving their diet and adopting healthy lifestyles, promoting the consumption of seafood caught by the Spanish fleet in international waters.
