The Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital compensates for the decrease with an increase in internal collections, while mobile units register fewer bags.

The number of valid blood donations in Lanzarote and La Graciosa fell in 2025 to 2,941 units, compared to 3,050 in 2024 and 3,477 in 2023.

Last year, the total number of valid blood donations between Lanzarote and La Graciosa stood at 2,941, representing a decrease from the 3,050 recorded in 2024. This figure is even further from the annual record achieved in 2023, when 3,477 bags were counted.
This drop in the total number of donations is mainly attributed to the lower performance of mobile units. According to estimates based on official figures, these units collected 2,269 bags in 2025, compared to 2,433 the previous year.
Conversely, the collection capacity at the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital saw an increase in 2025, despite blood donation only being available in the morning. 672 bags were collected, surpassing the 617 registered in 2024.
The hospital maintains a positive trend, particularly noticeable in the first quarter of 2025, with 271 beneficial donations recorded, compared to 157 in the same period of the previous year.
To be a donor, individuals must meet requirements such as being between 18 and 65 years old (60 for a first-time donation), weighing over 50 kilograms, being in generally good health, and not being pregnant.
