The Canary Islands registered a 7.7% drop in cement sales in September 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, marking the third consecutive year-on-year decline, although cumulative sales up to September 2026 increased by 3%.

In September 2026, 48,564.9 tons of cement were sold in the Canary Islands, representing a 7.7% decrease compared to the same month in 2025. This figure confirms the third consecutive month with negative annual rates in cement sales, according to the Statistics on Wholesale Cement Sales published by the Canarian Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
However, the cumulative cement sales between January and September 2026 have seen a 3% increase compared to the same period last year. A total of 468,273.6 tons of cement were commercialized in the archipelago.
By islands, Lanzarote recorded the largest increase in cumulative sales up to September, with a rise of 30.7%. It is followed by El Hierro, which saw a 29.2% increase. In contrast, La Gomera experienced the largest decrease, with sales dropping by more than 15%, while La Palma also saw its cumulative sales fall by 9%.
Wholesale cement sales are considered an indirect indicator of the activity in the construction sector in the Canary Islands.
