III Canary Women and Sports Gala Honors Female Role Models in Lanzarote

The ceremony, held for the first time at Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote, recognizes the career and commitment of twenty-three leading figures in island sports.

The III Canary Women and Sports Gala, organized by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, moves to Lanzarote to recognize twenty-three outstanding female figures in island sports.

On April 23, the Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote will host the III Canary Women and Sports Gala, an event held for the first time outside Gran Canaria. The initiative, promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands through the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, in collaboration with the Charter 100 Canarias Association, aims to highlight the work, career, and commitment of athletes, professionals, and entities that have contributed to the advancement of women's sports in the archipelago.
Among the awardees this year are the Best Athletes at the autonomous level, with eight women representing each of the islands. These include Daniela Rodríguez Perera (tennis, Gran Canaria), Alexandra Rinder (bodyboard, Tenerife), Sol Borelli Luzarreta (surf, Lanzarote), Brenda Roger (handball, Fuerteventura), Gabriela Rodríguez Santaella (rhythmic gymnastics, La Palma), Julia Samsó Sánchez (athletics, El Hierro), Miguelina Padrón Herrera (powerlifting, La Gomera), and Tayri de León Quintero (sailing, La Graciosa).
The gala will also recognize other prominent figures in various categories. Journalist Fátima Febles will be honored as Best Sports Communicator. In the field of innovation, Flora Pescador Monagas will receive the Award for Architectural Excellence in Sports Facilities, and Marlene Merle will be recognized as a Leading Woman in Sports Innovation. Sisters Marta and Laura Capdevila Riverola will be acknowledged as Best Health and Sports Professionals.
Furthermore, the inspiring career of María Cantero Izquierdo in sailing, the commitment to sports sustainability of Wendy Cruz Vega, and the leadership of Ingrid Roger Soler, captain of Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote, will be celebrated. In the institutional sphere, the Asociación Mujeres Deportistas Canarias will receive the Award for Equality in Sports, and the Unión Deportiva Tenerife Femenino will be recognized as a driving entity for women's sports. Other awards include Carmen Sosa Castro (Best Sports Manager), Ariadna Chueca Moreno (Best Leader in Sports Arbitration), Cecilia Dorado García (leading figure in training), and Berta Santana Godoy from the Adassa Adapted Hockey Club of Lanzarote for her work in sports inclusion. Finally, Candelaria Aguiar Díaz, from the Club de Lucha Revoleada de Llano del Moro, will be honored as a Leading Woman in Traditional Canarian Sports.
The ceremony, starting at 7:00 PM and hosted by journalist Paloma del Río, promises a night of emotion and recognition in a unique natural and cultural setting. The evening will conclude with a special performance by the artistic brand LÓperArs, blending culture, emotion, and sport.
