The Island Library, located on Vía Medular in Arrecife, serves numerous users daily, often under conditions that require improvement. To optimize its services, the Cabildo has been managing since 2024 the potential acquisition of a nearby property.
In this context, significant progress has been made regarding a multi-story building situated on Juan Negrín Street. The maximum appraisal for this property has been set at just over 1.76 million euros, according to information published on Monday by diariodelanzarote.com. This figure will serve as a maximum reference, although Cabildo officials aim to close the deal for one million euros.
Currently, there is no specific date for finalizing the agreement. Should the purchase proceed, the building will likely require renovations to adapt it and configure classrooms, with the goal of establishing a network dependent on the Island Library within close proximity.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to acquire properties in Arrecife for public services. A recent example is the purchase of the Casa del Cabrerón, on Pérez Galdós Street, for almost 595,000 euros, with the intention of creating a cultural center for the neighborhoods of El Lomo and Valterra. Concurrently, the plan for the former Correos headquarters, on the avenue, to come under the corporation's ownership remains unresolved.
