Maritime Rescue saves 77 migrants near Lanzarote

Maritime Rescue saved 77 people this Sunday, including three minors, who were traveling on a dinghy located about 64 kilometers east of Lanzarote.

The vessel, which had departed from the Moroccan coast of Tan Tan, was sighted sailing towards the Canary Islands. The alert reached the Maritime Rescue center in Las Palmas around 11:00 AM.
Maritime controllers mobilized the vessel Salvamar Acrux and alerted nearby ships. The merchant vessel Eptalofos was diverted to one of the indicated positions and located the dinghy about 5 kilometers away.
Finally, the Salvamar Acrux completed the rescue at 2:06 PM, thanking the collaboration of the Eptalofos. The arrival of the rescued individuals at Puerto Naos, in Arrecife, is expected around 5:00 PM.
