Nearly ten months after construction began, Santa Elena square in Playa Honda is already displaying notable progress. This development, representing a 6.2 million euro investment with exclusive funding from the San Bartolomé Town Council, includes an advanced underground community car park.
In addition to the parking facility, a multi-purpose building is being erected, with completion anticipated by 2027. This three-story structure will house a public library, a dedicated space for seniors, and an area for cultural activities, as previously reported by CANARIAS7.
The car park will feature 110 spaces, most of which will be paid, and is designed to deter road traffic. The initiative, conceived during the previous municipal term and solidified in the current one after an upward budget revision, is fully funded by municipal resources, thanks to the local area's strong financial health.
“"This is an ambitious, long-awaited project that reflects our commitment to sustainable urban development and to responding to neighborhood demands. It represents a decisive step towards improving the quality of life in Playa Honda, where the lack of parking spaces has historically been one of the main concerns."
The construction contract was awarded in April of last year to Lanzagrava, in collaboration with Obras Públicas Canarias, following a lengthy bidding process. The Councillor for Urban Planning, Marlene Romero, emphasized at the time the commitment to a more accessible and people-focused Playa Honda.
