“"We are worried because we started calling early. We managed to speak with a couple of relatives, but lately, there's no coverage, some states have no electricity, things are getting more difficult. We know there are desperate people; we don't know how many people have actually died because there are collapsed buildings, many states are in crisis, everything that is happening is very ugly."

Donation collection point in Arrecife for sending humanitarian aid.
The Association of United Venezuelans of Lanzarote is organizing a material collection campaign to send aid to Venezuela, amid a lack of information regarding the severity of the situation.
The Association of United Venezuelans of Lanzarote has initiated efforts to send aid to the Caribbean nation, within a period of uncertainty due to the scarcity of information arriving from across the Atlantic about the gravity of the situation and how it may be affecting relatives and close acquaintances.
The main collection campaign is anticipated for the week of July 2nd and 3rd. According to Indira García, the collective's president, the organization is proceeding cautiously. "We don't want to collect haphazardly; we want to first establish what is most needed," García explained, adding that they are waiting "a little bit" to ensure greater effectiveness and collaboration.
The entity's headquarters on Bolivia Street in Arrecife, in the La Vega neighborhood, will be the collection point. "We have already prepared a poster that we will be publishing. And we will be at the Association's premises, as we have done before," stated the spokesperson.
García highlighted the collective's concern regarding the news received since the seismic movements and their terrible human consequences. The lack of coverage and electricity in several states complicates communication and exacerbates the situation, according to the testimonies that manage to get through.
