The Gáldar City Council has approved the release of 3.5 million euros from its 2024 surplus to fund four essential infrastructure projects, including a car park, a new road access, the renovation of a football pitch, and a multi-purpose cultural space.
The Gáldar City Council Plenary, in its April session, greenlit the use of these funds. The works include the creation of a car park and green areas at the former IES Saulo Torón sports court, the construction of a new road access to the La Montaña neighborhood from the Paseo de Los Guanartemes, the modernization of the Antonio Castillo 7-a-side football pitch, and the development of a multi-functional cultural space in the urban park on Delgado Street.

"Royal Decree-Law 15/2025 allows local entities to allocate the 2024 surplus to financially sustainable investments during the years 2025, 2026, and 2027, which must be completed before December 31, 2027. This rule ensures that the local entity does not compromise its financial stability and will not affect our spending ceiling."
The plenary approval not only grants the necessary legal coverage for these investments, which meet all established requirements, but also enables the essential budgetary credit for their execution. The mayor of the municipality highlighted that the car park project at the former IES Saulo Torón, with a total cost of 3.5 million euros, has a contribution of 2.5 million from the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, while the City Council will contribute one million euros.
Likewise, the new roundabout in front of the Bus Station, which will facilitate direct access to the La Montaña neighborhood, will be fully financed by the City Council with 845,000 euros. The renovation of the Antonio Castillo 7-a-side football pitch in Barrial, costing nearly half a million euros, will also be covered by the council. Regarding the urban park, the mayor noted that it has been given a significant boost towards its completion, with an investment of 2.9 million euros, of which 1.7 million come from the Government of the Canary Islands and 1.2 million from the City Council.

"We are approving works totaling 7.7 million euros, of which 3.5 million are being approved today because in 2025 we saved 7 million euros in the City Council. And we do this thanks to good management. All of this is budget from 2026 that we saved, and that allows us to increase our spending ceiling."
The municipal official concluded that this economic effort by the City Council is possible thanks to solid financial management, as these investments could not be approved if the 2024 fiscal year had closed with losses.
