A total of 1,500 schoolchildren from across the municipality and other parts of the island, along with approximately 300 users from senior clubs and centers in Gran Canaria, participated in the 2026 Children's Pilgrimage. This event, which celebrates Canarian customs and traditions, has become well-established after the success of previous editions, making it one of the most attended gatherings.
The pilgrims paraded through the historic streets of Gáldar to the sanctuary, where they made a traditional offering to the image of Santiago El Peregrino. They were welcomed by the rector, Manuel Reyes.
The event culminated with the performance of dances, popular songs, and exhibitions of native games and sports. Children and seniors shared an emotional moment that highlights the deep roots of Canarian identity and the vitality of traditions in the municipality.
The schoolchildren presented various dances and songs, including 'isas', 'seguidillas', 'polkas', the 'chotis majorero', and the colorful umbrella dance, showcasing the richness of local folklore.
