The Gáldar City Council, through its Department of Culture and Festivals, is preparing to participate once again in the Fiesta de Las Marías, which will be held in the neighboring municipality of Santa María de Guía this Sunday, September 20th. Preparations for the float that will depart with the Gáldar delegation are being finalized.
The delegation's departure is scheduled for 11:00 AM from the Bajada de Las Guayarminas (El 99). They will later meet with the Guía council at the roundabout of Becerril, on the line connecting both municipalities. The Agrupación Musical Facaracas will accompany Gáldar's float during the procession.
Since 2008, Gáldar has participated in this votive celebration at the invitation of the Fiesta's Stewards. The festival originated in 1811 as a promise to the Virgin made by residents of the areas of Altos de Guía, Gáldar, and Moya to protect them from a locust plague.
Residents of Gáldar wishing to attend the festival should be at the Bajada de Las Guayarminas by 11:00 AM. The delegation is expected to arrive at the Becerril roundabout at 11:30 AM.
