The Gáldar City Council, via the Department of Solidarity, led by Ana Teresa Mendoza Jiménez, organized the 'Gáldar with its heart in Mozambique' solidarity gala this Thursday. This initiative is part of the ‘Gáldar for Solidarity 2026’ program and was developed in collaboration with the Amagro de Barrial Neighbors Association.
The main objective of the gala, held at the neighborhood association's headquarters, was to raise funds to finance early childhood and primary schools in rural villages in Mozambique. The Madres Solidarias association will manage the funds raised to support the educational projects promoted by priest Manolín Ramírez in the African country.
The evening featured a musical performance by the duo formed by Juan Carlos Álamo Rosario and Dunia Candelaria Sosa, who offered a repertoire focused on boleros, adaptations of well-known songs, and contemporary Mexican music. Juan Carlos Álamo also included protest songs and traditional Puerto Rican music.
This gala in Barrial is the fourth event in the ‘Gáldar for Solidarity 2026’ program, following those held in San Isidro, Cañada Honda, and Los Quintana. The City Council thus aims to bring these initiatives to different neighborhoods, fostering citizen participation and raising awareness about the reality faced by rural communities in Mozambique.
Through culture and citizen participation, the program seeks to strengthen the values of solidarity and international cooperation, highlighting projects that improve educational opportunities for children in rural communities of Mozambique. The event was funded by the Department of Institutional Cooperation and International Solidarity of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.
