The operation took place during a fiscal checkpoint at the Tenerife port, established due to the arrival of a ship from Gran Canaria. Agents from the Civil Guard, including the Fiscal and Borders Section and the Fiscal and Borders Analysis and Investigation Unit (UDAIFF), participated alongside the Operational Unit of Customs Surveillance.
Officers identified the two occupants of a vehicle that had just disembarked. During the initial interview, both displayed an attitude considered suspicious and evasive by investigators, in addition to providing inconsistent and contradictory answers.
Given these circumstances, officers requested to conduct a vehicle check. In the trunk, they located a large piece of luggage containing numerous packages wrapped in brown tape. A drug test performed on the contents yielded a positive result for cocaine.
Once all the packaging was removed, the seized substance weighed a total of 22,160 grams of cocaine. Furthermore, agents found nearly 5,000 euros in cash inside the vehicle. According to the Civil Guard, this quantity of high-purity cocaine would have exceeded 1.3 million euros on the market.
The two detainees were handed over to the competent judicial authority along with the proceedings and the seized substances. The court has ordered their imprisonment. The Civil Guard stated that this operation has successfully dismantled a significant drug trafficking network.
