Scheduled for Thursday, April 16, the initiative's main goal is to encourage reflection among young audiences on the importance of personal choices and their potential repercussions. This awareness-raising proposal is driven by the Prevention area of the Gáldar City Council, under the direction of Nuria Esther Vega Valencia.
Approximately 500 students from various educational centers in Gran Canaria, along with users of social and health resources, will attend this educational and social event. Participating centers include IES Roque Amagro, CEO Luján Pérez, IES Guía, CEIP Jesús Sacramentado, IES Guanarteme de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and IES Pepe Dámaso de Agaete. Additionally, about 25 individuals from day centers in Gáldar and the Mental Health Unit of La Aldea will be present, accompanied by monitors and teachers.
The staging of Tales from the Cell will be performed by current and former inmates of the Las Palmas I Penitentiary Center. The play is directed by the Sociocultural Association Travesía, an entity dedicated to social reintegration through artistic expression.
Beyond the performance, the activity will include a subsequent discussion where young people will have the opportunity to interact directly with the actors. This dialogue will allow them to learn firsthand about personal experiences marked by change, overcoming challenges, and the relevance of making responsible decisions, aiming to generate a significant impact on the attendees.
The organizers hope that this exchange will foster a deep emotional connection with the students, solidifying the activity as an effective educational tool for preventing risky behaviors. This initiative is part of the actions by the Prevention Department to promote more conscious educational and community environments, fostering values such as responsibility, reflection, and personal development among youth.
