The Express Line 3, which links Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura Airport, and Caleta de Fuste, commenced operations this Monday with the aim of speeding up journeys on one of the most in-demand routes. This new line reduces the number of stops to offer a faster service.
The fleet has been renewed with the addition of three electric buses, acquired by the Fuerteventura Island Council with an investment close to two million euros, entirely financed by European Next Generation funds. These vehicles ensure full accessibility and are part of the island's strategy to modernize the transport network and reduce environmental impact.
The official presentation was attended by the President of the Island Council, Lola García; the Minister of Transport and Mobility, Luis González; the Director General of Transport and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, María Fernández; the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera; and the manager of ALSA Canarias, César Fernández.
The Express Line 3 complements the conventional route and maintains its usual frequency from Monday to Friday. However, it is significantly reinforced on weekends: on Saturdays, services increase from 66 to 98 (a 48.5% rise), and on Sundays, from 47 to 60.
This action responds to demands from users, workers, and the hospitality sector, who had requested an improved connection during periods of high tourist and work activity. The President of the Island Council, Lola García, highlighted that the new line will allow "reducing travel times on one of Fuerteventura's most used and congested routes".
Minister Luis González emphasized that the line is "designed for the real needs of users, prioritizing speed, comfort, and connection with strategic points." Meanwhile, María Fernández valued the incorporation of electric buses as "another step forward in strengthening a more efficient, punctual, safe, and adapted transport system to the real needs of the citizens."
The launch of Express Line 3 is part of a broader package of improvements that includes 173 additional weekly frequencies on key routes such as Line 3, 16, and 5, with the addition of 18 new drivers and 10,400 additional service kilometers each week. Line 16 (Gran Tarajal-Puerto del Rosario) increases from 127 to 183 weekly frequencies, and Line 5 (Morro Jable-Costa Calma) increases by 62% to 220 frequencies.
