The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has laid the first stone for the new Corralejo II Health Center, an investment of 9.9 million euros that will strengthen healthcare in northern Fuerteventura.

The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has highlighted the Government's "clear commitment" to reinforcing healthcare in northern Fuerteventura with the laying of the first stone for the new Corralejo II Health Center. This infrastructure aims to expand and improve the healthcare capacity of the Basic Health Zone (ZBS) of La Oliva.
Clavijo emphasized that the construction of the new center responds to the population growth experienced in recent decades, particularly in Corralejo. "Today we have over 28,000 health cards, almost 70% more than in 2006," he stated, adding that the new center is "modern, accessible, and prepared to expand the area's care capacity."
The ZBS of La Oliva has grown from 16,785 health cards in 2006 to 28,289 currently, representing a 70% increase over two decades. The new center, with a 23-month execution period, involves an investment of 9.9 million euros, co-financed by the European Union through the FEDER program.
This initiative is part of the joint effort by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, and the island's municipalities to strengthen healthcare. The president recalled the launch of the medicalized helicopter and the promotion of new healthcare infrastructures, planning healthcare "for today and for the future."
Also present at the ceremony were the Minister of Health, Esther Monzón; health officials from Fuerteventura, Tomás Pérez and Alejandro Miguens; the president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García; and the mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco.
Lola García highlighted the "inter-administrative coordination" to fulfill a "historic demand," while Isaí Blanco stressed that the center addresses a "need" due to the municipality's "significant growth."
Esther Monzón explained that the current health center "had reached its growth limit," making modern and efficient facilities "urgent." The new Corralejo II health center will have a built area of 3,585.82 square meters on a single floor.
The current Corralejo Health Center will continue to operate, but the assigned population will be divided to reduce healthcare pressure. With the opening of Corralejo II, the ZBS of La Oliva will have five health centers.
The new center will feature over thirty consultation rooms for family care, pediatrics, emergencies, radiology, minor surgery, diagnostic tests, women's health, oral health, among other healthcare areas.
