The council has intervened a total of 86 black wells, septic tanks, and sealed deposits, removing over 700 cubic meters of wastewater and septic sludge. These tasks are part of the Sanitation and Supply Plan for La Graciosa, funded by an initial grant of 200,000 euros from the Government of the Canary Islands.
The work will continue progressively until the new sanitation system planned for the island becomes operational. The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, highlighted the necessity of these actions to preserve the natural environment, especially in the urban center of Caleta del Sebo, located within the Natural Park.
The objective is to equip Caleta del Sebo with a sanitation network and improve supply infrastructure, thus ensuring sustainability. Operations are coordinated with the Environment Department for the proper management of extracted waste.
To ensure the continuity of this essential service, the Teguise City Council has received a new grant of 200,000 euros from the Government of the Canary Islands, which will allow for the re-tender of the contract for cleaning and emptying black wells, septic tanks, and sealed deposits until the future sanitation system of Caleta del Sebo is operational.
