The municipality of Teguise, including La Graciosa, intensely experienced the celebrations honoring Nuestra Señora del Carmen, bringing together hundreds of people for religious and traditional events.

Last Thursday, the municipality of Teguise marked a significant day in its festive calendar with the Festivities in Honor of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Both La Villa de Teguise and La Graciosa hosted the central events, drawing hundreds of residents and visitors.
In La Villa de Teguise, the day began with a Solemn Religious Service at the main church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, presided over by Reverend Antonio Perera Pérez and parish priest Juan Manuel Molina, accompanied by the Parish Choir.
Following the religious celebration, the image of Nuestra Señora del Carmen paraded through the streets of the Historic Site of La Villa in a traditional procession, joined by civil and military authorities, institutional representatives, the Municipal Band Teguiband, and hundreds of participants.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, congratulated the residents on the feast day, thanking them for their participation and respect in celebrating traditions that are integral to the municipality's identity.
Andoni Machín, Councilor for Culture and Festivities, noted that the Carmen festival once again demonstrates the ability of their celebrations to unite entire generations around their traditions, reinforcing a sense of belonging and the value of their cultural and religious heritage.
Meanwhile, on La Graciosa, the celebration featured the traditional Maritime Procession of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, one of the most emblematic events of the eighth island.
After a Celebration of the Word, the image of the sailors' patron embarked on the Lorenza y Manuel, accompanied by over fifty boats participating in the coastal route. A floral offering was made in memory of those lost at sea, an act filled with emotion and symbolism.
Upon arrival at the pier of Caleta del Sebo, the Virgin was welcomed by hundreds of people. The event included the blessing of the image, the performance of the Ave Maria by Juan Antonio «El Charro», and performances by the Parranda El Lagar de Teseguite and A.F.C. Altaja, as well as the presentation of the Inocencia Páez Poetry Prize.
These events mark the conclusion of the Carmen Festivities in La Villa de Teguise 2026. The festivities in La Graciosa will continue until July 28th with a broad program of cultural, sports, children's, musical, and traditional activities.
