Urban Planning orders from Teguise, signed by Rita Hernández and approved by mayor Olivia Duque, have enabled intervention in Plot 216 of Costa Teguise. This plot, containing the structure of a five-star hotel frozen by legal proceedings, has undergone a cleaning process involving heavy machinery and personnel.
During the operation, one machine, three trucks, approximately twenty workers, and a dozen Local Police officers were deployed. The primary objective was to commence cleaning the area and to inform the individuals residing within the ruins, facilitating the departure of several occupants. However, precinted and inhabited sections could not be accessed.
The property owner, a well-known Andalusian hotel chain, has committed to installing a new perimeter fence and implementing a private security service to prevent future occupations. This agreement follows a neighborhood gathering last Friday, where about a hundred attendees protested the area's insecurity, linking it to the site's inhabitants.
Sources close to the responsible council department indicated that resident complaints were a catalyst for the orders being signed. Mayor Olivia Duque described the action as "necessary to reduce existing risks and improve the environmental safety conditions, always within what a public administration can legally do."
