Teguise, October 16, 2026. The appointment, approved in a plenary session, distinguishes Hernández for his contribution to the knowledge and recovery of numerous aspects of local history, establishing him as a cultural reference figure in Lanzarote.
Francisco Hernández Delgado, official chronicler of Teguise since 2011, has dedicated decades to researching and collecting documentation on the customs, historical events, and popular manifestations that define the municipality's identity. Born in La Villa de Teguise in 1947, his connection with local culture and traditions is profound.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, and the Municipal Corporation congratulated Hernández, highlighting his work in preserving and transmitting the municipality's history. "Paco has dedicated a significant part of his life to preserving and disseminating our history, a task that deserves Teguise's recognition and gratitude," stated the mayor.
His contributions include participation in the City Council's first Cultural Plan, the Museum of the Emigrant, the Insular Historical Archive, and the recovery of traditions such as Los Diabletes de Teguise. His bibliography comprises 14 works and around a hundred publications on Canarian history, ethnography, and genealogy.
Furthermore, in 2024, he was appointed president of the Board of Official Chroniclers of the Canary Islands. This designation as Adopted Son underscores his commitment to Teguise's historical and cultural memory.
