The Teguise City Council has reopened the La Mareta children's park in La Villa to the public, following a thorough renovation that has updated the play area, enhanced accessibility and safety, and incorporated themed elements.

The La Mareta children's park in La Villa has undergone a comprehensive renovation and is now available for the municipality's children and families. The project covered a play area of approximately 531 square meters, featuring new play elements, notably a pirate-themed ship referencing the history of Teguise.
The work included replacing old play equipment, installing new safety surfacing, adapting access points, adding urban furniture, and improving lighting and the surrounding environment to ensure a more comfortable and safe daily use.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, emphasized the importance of maintaining public children's facilities in good condition, stating, "The opening of this park allows the children of La Villa to once again enjoy a space that is part of the daily lives of many families." She highlighted the need to adapt the facilities to the safety and accessibility standards required for such spaces.
Duque added that "children's parks are meeting places for families and spaces for community interaction," and noted that at La Mareta, the aim was to ensure the new games "relate to our history, incorporating elements that recall the past of Teguise".
For his part, the Councilor for Public Works, Eugenio Robayna, explained that the intervention focused on renovating the children's facilities and addressing the most deteriorated elements, "especially the pavement and play areas," to adapt the space to family needs and improve safety for young children.
The renovation of the park, awarded for an amount of 405,155.56 euros, was carried out with the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote through the Municipal Cooperation Plan. This action is part of the ongoing efforts to conserve and renew the municipality's children's spaces.
