The actions will focus on improving facilities, creating new shaded areas, renovating sports infrastructure, adapting Enclave Classrooms, removing asbestos, and repairing damage caused by recent storms.
The minister for the area, Poli Suárez, announced the measure and presented agreements for infrastructure improvements in five municipalities of Gran Canaria: Agaete, Artenara, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, and Valsequillo. He emphasized that this is an unprecedented effort to condition educational infrastructures and provide the best possible conditions for the educational community.
The plan aims to recover lost time and address urgent demands from the educational community, adapting infrastructures to current climatic conditions with shaded areas and naturalization projects, as well as improving inclusion and accessibility.
Planned actions include the construction of the new CEIP Gran Tarajal and works at the CEIP Francisco Navarro Artiles in Fuerteventura, as well as the expansion of the IES Roque Amagro in Gran Canaria. Shaded areas will be created in 62 centers (over 2.6 million euros) and naturalization projects will be carried out in another 55 (over 2.3 million).
The Ministry will allocate more than 3 million euros to 54 projects in Enclave Classrooms and over 2.7 million to 78 actions to repair storm damage in 77 centers. Asbestos will also be removed from five centers (over 1.4 million euros), and seven other major interventions exceeding 1.7 million euros will be completed.
Collaboration agreements were presented with the town councils of Agaete, Artenara, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, and Valsequillo, enabling works in 15 centers on Gran Canaria with an autonomous contribution of nearly 4 million euros. This inter-administrative collaboration model, coordinated by Iván G. Carro, has mobilized around 25 million euros through agreements with 25 administrations.
In Agaete, over 600,000 euros will be invested in renovating the sports courts of CEIP José Sánchez y Sánchez and Ana Betancor Estupiñán. The mayor, María del Carmen Rosario, highlighted that this addresses a long-standing demand.
The agreement with Artenara includes over 84,000 euros to repair the roof of CEIP Artenara, resolving filtration issues. Mayor Jesús Díaz thanked the Ministry's involvement in keeping the school operational.
In San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the IES El Tablero-Aguañac will be expanded with over 1.6 million euros from the Ministry and 1.2 million from the municipality, adding new Baccalaureate classrooms. Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez emphasized that this fulfills a community demand.
The agreement with Valsequillo will facilitate improvements in five infrastructures (CEIP Elvira Vaquero, Los Llanetes, Tenteniguada, Tejeda, and CEO Rey Juan Carlos I) with a one million euro contribution from the autonomous government. Councilor Inmaculada García highlighted the opportunity to provide safer and more adapted spaces for students.
Finally, the agreement with Santa Lucía de Tirajana allocates 650,000 euros for improvements in safety, climate efficiency, and infrastructure renovation at the CEIP Ansite, Los Llanos, Policarpo Báez, Santa Lucía, Tajaraste, and Tinguaro.
