The Social Action Department of the Council promotes this new edition, aiming to enhance the health and well-being of the elderly. The area's counselor, Víctor Alonso, met with representatives from the Neurological Association and council members from Antigua, Betancuria, La Oliva, Pájara, Puerto del Rosario, and Tuineje to define the planning.
The meeting, held at the Betancuria Town Hall, set the calendar for the 2026-2027 season. The initiative will kick off on Friday, October 16th, with an inaugural parade in Caleta de Fuste (Antigua). Qualification rounds will take place on Saturday, October 17th, and the finals and closing ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 18th, in Las Playitas (Tuineje).
To conclude the season, the Fuerteventura Training and Congress Palace in Puerto del Rosario will host the NeuroMajo 2026 Gala on February 6th, 2027. This event will recognize the effort made by participants throughout the season.
Furthermore, Fuerteventura will host the regional competition NeuroCanarias 2026, scheduled from November 20th to 22nd, 2026, in the municipality of Pájara. This event will bring together the best teams from the Archipelago.
As a novelty, the 'letter race' event will be held outside the main competition weekend, taking place in each municipality. The planned dates and venues are: Puerto del Rosario (October 2nd), Gran Tarajal in Tuineje (October 2nd), Corralejo in La Oliva (October 5th), Morro Jable in Pájara (October 8th), Betancuria (October 8th), and Antigua (October 9th).
Regarding collaboration, the company SPAR Padilla Supermercado has expressed its intention to renew the partnership agreement for the 'For a Healthy Old Age' program. This initiative provides discount cards for purchasing essential and healthy products to participants.
Counselor Víctor Alonso emphasized the importance of these institutional coordinations in promoting active aging initiatives and invited the island's population to attend and support the seniors in the various events.
