One dead, one seriously injured after Fuerteventura road accident

A man around 60 years old died and another of similar age was seriously injured in a pedestrian hit-and-run on the FV-603 road near Costa Calma.

A man around 60 years old has died and another of similar age has been seriously injured following a pedestrian incident on Tuesday night on the FV-603 road, near Costa Calma, in the south of Fuerteventura.

The incident occurred around 10:22 PM on Tuesday, when the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Safety Coordinating Center (CECOES) 112 received an alert about a serious pedestrian hit-and-run involving two individuals. Emergency resources were immediately deployed.
Upon arrival of the Canary Emergency Services (SUC) teams, medical professionals confirmed the death of one of the affected individuals at the scene due to the severity of their injuries.
The second pedestrian sustained a severe head trauma. After receiving medical assistance and being stabilized by the healthcare personnel, he was transported by a medicalized ambulance to the Morro Jable heliport.
Given the critical nature of the injuries, a medicalized helicopter had been kept on standby. Ultimately, the injured man was airlifted to the Hospital Universitario Insular de Gran Canaria for specialized treatment.
The emergency operation involved a medicalized ambulance, a basic life support ambulance, and a medicalized helicopter from the SUC. Elements from the Guardia Civil, the Local Police of Pájara, and the Firefighters of Pájara also attended. The firefighters collaborated with the medical teams during victim assistance, while the police forces took charge of the investigations to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
