The Alajeró Town Council has called for a protest on Thursday, April 16, at the Curva de Targa, due to deep dissatisfaction with continuous delays and hazardous conditions on the GM-3 road works, which have affected the municipality for five years.

Works on the GM-3 road, a vital route connecting Playa de Santiago with the island's airport and the municipal center of Alajeró, have caused significant discontent among residents. Since their commencement in 2021, these projects, under the responsibility of the Government of Canarias, have been plagued by stoppages and slow execution, leaving unpaved sections that become dangerous, especially during adverse weather, even leading to road closures.
The situation is exacerbated by the failure to implement an emergency work declared two years ago, in 2024, in the Cañada de Las Palomas area. This intervention, intended to construct a retaining wall due to the road's poor condition, has yet to be carried out, heightening safety concerns.

"The summer season is approaching, a time when road traffic in the area doubles not only due to local residents but also the large volume of visitors La Gomera receives during this summer period."

Manuel Ramón Plasencia · Mayor of Alajeró
The Alajeró Town Council, with the unanimous support of all political forces in the plenary session on February 23, 2026, approved an Institutional Agreement. This agreement demands that the Regional Executive apply regulations to hold the contracting company accountable, accelerate the completion of pending sections, and immediately improve road safety conditions, adhering to established deadlines.
Furthermore, a detailed report has been requested from the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of Canarias, Pablo Rodríguez Valido, outlining the current status of the works, including emergency interventions, reasons for delays, and a new, updated, and binding schedule with specific completion dates. The Town Council anticipates a large turnout for the protest, viewing it as a just and urgent demand, particularly with the upcoming summer season expected to double traffic in the area.
