The plenary hall of the Agüimes City Council hosted the swearing-in ceremony for three new Local Police officers on Monday, who are beginning their roles as probationary civil servants. This addition is part of an expansion plan to reach 33 officers by 2027, a figure that will substantially enhance the ratio of one police officer per 1,000 inhabitants.
Mayor Óscar Hernández presided over the event, congratulating the officers on their efforts and highlighting the crucial role of the police in ensuring citizen safety and quality of life. He was joined by the Councilor for Citizen Security and Human Resources, Efraín González; the Head of the Local Police, Luisa González; and the Municipal Secretary, Antonio Patiño.
Officers Tamara López, José Antonio Expósito, and Martín Cabrera took their oath for their new positions. Before fully joining the force, they must complete approximately 1,100 hours of practical training. The mayor also announced the intention to fill 8 additional vacant positions, on top of the 6 already planned for 2025, consolidating the goal of 33 officers by next year.
In parallel with the staff expansion, the Agüimes Local Police is committed to continuous training. Recently, officer Ezequiel García participated in the university credential 'Expert in Police and Military Grappling,' a national reference course in the professional use of force, promoted by the University of La Rioja.
