The young athletes, visibly happy and wearing their medals, were received this Friday by the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, and the councilor for Physical Activity and Sports, Julio Ojeda. The medals they proudly displayed symbolize the team's effort and dedication.
Mayor García highlighted the importance of sports in municipal policy, stating that "one of the pillars of our policies is physical activity and sport." He emphasized that the gymnasts' triumphs are the result of their "effort," but also acknowledged the work of the coaches and the quality of the municipal facilities.
García also thanked the "tremendous effort" made by the athletes in "balancing training with studies," encouraging them to "continue competing with dedication, tenacity, and the ability to overcome challenges" and to "proudly say they are from Santa Lucía Tirajana."
For his part, councilor Julio Ojeda expressed his "honor" in receiving them and recognized the weight of the medals as a reflection of the "work they do throughout the year." He congratulated the gymnasts on their dedication, especially those who, unlike other children their age enjoying the beach, are preparing for new competitions.
Ojeda extended his congratulations to the families: "I think we also have to congratulate their fathers, their mothers, and the entire family that makes the effort to accompany them to different competitions."
The gymnasts shared their experiences. Emma, who will turn 11 in October, began her sports journey between the ages of six and seven. Indira, also 11, started at four and enjoys gymnastics "because I have a lot of fun" and "we get along very well with each other." Lucía Gabriela, the earliest starter at just two years old, stated that "I love gymnastics because it's a sport I really like, and above all, being with them is also something I really enjoy."
Coach Zamira Francisco, along with Ainara, described the season as "wonderful" and highlighted the great effort of the girls, who train "4 hours daily, four days a week," which is reflected in the "results we have achieved this year."
