The Sepca union organization has lodged a formal complaint with the Provincial Labor and Social Security Inspection regarding the state of the mechanics workshop located within the municipal Public Services facilities in Santa Lucía de Tirajana. The complaint focuses on structural deficiencies that, according to the union, could jeopardize employee health.
The document details that part of the workshop's roof is damaged and missing several panels, allowing pigeons to enter. The accumulation of their droppings in work areas poses a risk, as they could fall on workers during their daily tasks.
Sepca asserts that these deficiencies were identified during a technical visit, but regrets that no measures have been taken to resolve the issue. The union considers these working conditions unacceptable and criticizes the City Council for its inaction in ensuring safe and adequate facilities.
“"We request the Labor Inspection to intervene as soon as possible and adopt the necessary measures to protect the safety of the staff."
The complaint, filed in April, has prompted labor inspectors to visit the premises. An official resolution on the opened file is still pending. The general secretary of the union section, Juan Manuel Pérez, has expressed concern over the lack of changes, stating that conditions remain the same as months ago without any corrective actions.
Additionally, Sepca has filed another complaint accusing the council of "continuous discrimination" against workers on employment plans. According to the union, these employees receive lower salaries than municipal staff performing equivalent functions and face other differential treatment, such as a shortage of lockers.
The complaint indicates that employment plan workers must use their own clothing, unlike municipal personnel who receive two uniforms annually as per the collective agreement. Salary differences are estimated at approximately 300 euros per month for workers of equal or similar professional categories, situations already recognized as discriminatory in final court rulings.
