The special program ‘Aquí nuestra gente’ (Here Our People), screened under a tent in Buen Suceso Park, recognized the work of nine individuals from the Villa de Ingenio. These residents were highlighted for their dedication, commitment, and active participation in the municipality's life, contributing to keeping its traditions, culture, and values alive, and passing on principles such as solidarity and community commitment.
The event began with music from the timple played by David Díaz and tenths by verseador Yeray Rodríguez, recited by one of the honorees, Georgina ‘Gina’ Morales Sánchez. After the welcome by program director Wendy Fuentes, the first block of interviews was screened. Subsequently, the mayor of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín, along with the Councilor for Festivities, Rayco Padilla, and the president of the Bicentennial Patronage of the Virgin, Pimpina Herrera, presented gifts to Siso Olivares Ramírez, Marina Martel López, Isabel Sánchez Cabrera, and Josefa ‘Pepita’ Bravo de Laguna Santana.
The emotion continued with a second block of interviews, followed by another presentation of gifts. The final block was dedicated to Alberto Viera Salgado and Georgina ‘Gina’ Morales Sánchez, thus completing a journey through nine stories that form part of Ingenio's collective memory.
The evening also featured music by Adonay Santana, who presented ‘Lo Nuestro’, a theme composed as the opening for ‘Aquí nuestra gente’. A particularly touching gesture was Alberto Viera presenting plaques he had crafted to the Ingenio City Council and Wendy Fuentes.
Mayor Vanesa Martín highlighted the initiative as "one of the most emotional and, I believe, most successful programs" undertaken by the council, thanking the honorees for "giving them a face and voice and allowing us to enjoy their story and, through it, the story of our town."
Councilor for Festivities, Rayco Padilla, noted that the common thread among the protagonists has been "a life dedicated to family, devotion to their work, commitment to the community, and identity," concluding that "happiness and success seem to lie in these aspects."
The gathering reaffirmed the value of recognizing those who have contributed to building Ingenio's society, remembering that a municipality's identity is forged through solidarity, participation, and the contributions of its members.
