The municipality of Ingenio, in Gran Canaria, will host the 19th International Seminar on Sustainable Regions on April 28th and 29th, bringing together experts and authorities to address waste management and the circular economy in island environments.

This event, established over nearly two decades, has become a key forum for analysis and exchange of experiences in sustainable development. This edition will primarily focus on waste management and its valorization, with a particular emphasis on applying circular economy solutions in island territories.
Organized by the Mancomunidad del Sureste, the seminar will take place at the Federico García Lorca Cultural Center. It will feature international experts, public officials, technicians, and specialized entities, all sharing the common goal of promoting practical solutions for current environmental challenges.
The program for this edition will cover crucial topics such as waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), critical materials, textile waste, and difficult-to-recycle streams. Additionally, it will analyze the role of energy recovery within a model that prioritizes waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.

The seminar is aimed at public administrations, companies, sector professionals, universities, and citizens interested in sustainability.

The sessions, held in the afternoon, will combine keynote speeches, round tables, and dialogue spaces. These forums will allow for the sharing of real experiences and innovative strategies to tackle current environmental challenges. The inauguration is scheduled for April 28th at 5:30 PM, with interventions from the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, and the mayors of the southeast: Vanesa Martín (Ingenio), Óscar Hernández (Agüimes), and Francisco García (Santa Lucía de Tirajana).
Among the prominent speakers are Ella Stengler from the Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants, Iñigo Núñez from the Canarian Foundation for Recycling and Sustainable Development, and Sebastià Sansó from the Government of the Balearic Islands. The seminar is free to attend with prior registration, and Ingenio takes over from Vecindario, where the previous edition focused on climate change.
