Given the delicate situation of Cáritas food banks in Ingenio and Carrizal, the organizations Hablemos Ahora Ingenio and Agrupa Sureste have launched an initiative that merges culture and social commitment. The proposal involves giving a book in exchange for a donation of one kilogram of non-perishable food or personal cleaning and hygiene products.
The solidarity day will take place on April 23, coinciding with Book Day, in both morning (from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM) and afternoon (from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM) hours. Two collection points have been set up in the municipality: a private premises on Avenida Carlos V, 116, in Carrizal, and the Cáritas store located next to Parque Las Mimosas, in El Ejido.
All collected products will be fully delivered to the Cáritas branches in Ingenio and Carrizal, institutions that perform essential work to cover the basic needs of numerous families in the area.
“"Reserves are at an all-time low, which has forced us to urgently request the collaboration of groups, businesses, and citizens."
At the end of last March, representatives from both entities held an urgent meeting with the Ingenio City Council due to the severe shortage of essential products, which makes it difficult to assist the growing number of vulnerable families. Cáritas emphasizes that, in addition to the lack of food, many families face serious difficulties in covering basic expenses such as rent or utilities, making the guarantee of a shopping basket a crucial relief.
The organization has expressed its gratitude for the involvement of Cáritas and collaborating businesses, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in strengthening the social support network during times of particular difficulty.
