In response to the critical shortage of resources in Cáritas food banks in Ingenio and Carrizal, two local groups have launched a solidarity campaign for Book Day.

The severe lack of basic products for vulnerable families in the municipality of Ingenio has led Cáritas food banks to a critical situation. In late March, the heads of these entities held an urgent meeting with the Ingenio City Council to convey the seriousness of the problem.
Current reserves are at an all-time low, making it impossible to meet the growing social demand. Faced with this reality, Cáritas has urgently requested the collaboration of groups, businesses, and citizens, as available public resources are insufficient to address the situation.

"Currently, reserves are at an all-time low and cannot cover the growing social demand."

In addition to the food shortage, many families struggle to cover essential expenses such as rent or utilities, making the guarantee of a shopping basket a top priority.
Against this backdrop, the collectives Agrupa Sureste and Hablemos Ahora Ingenio have organized a solidarity initiative on the occasion of Book Day. The goal is to support Cáritas and help alleviate the lack of resources.
The event, taking place this Thursday, April 23, will involve exchanging a book for one kilogram of non-perishable food, cleaning products, or personal hygiene items. Collection will be held in the morning, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and in the afternoon, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Two collection points have been set up: a location at the Cáritas store in El Ejido, next to Parque Las Mimosas, and at Avenida Carlos V, 116, in Carrizal.
All collected products will be entirely donated to the Cáritas branches in Ingenio and Carrizal.
